Single Port Vessels and Single Port Deliveries.
There are two types and sizes of vessels that bring fuels to New Zealand, one is known a LR1 or VLC, these are very large and also the draft is deep which limits the ports where these vessels can moor, that is where Marsden Point comes in to it unique use for NZ.
Marsden Point is the only port that can moor such large vessels, and Marsden Point has the largest fuel storage available throughout the country. Northland has the highest use of fuels, so that explains in part why most of the fuel tankers that arrive at Marsden Point go no further around New Zealand, they are too large and cannot berth.
LR1M or LR2's, these are the smaller tankers that can berth in any port around the country, and as their movement is always recorded, they can also, and do dock at Marsden Point and then go further around New Zealand.
There are occasions where at times, some ports do have a single delivery of fuel, the vessels being of a smaller size, they are a one port only visit, this could be that these vessels are ordered for a single delivery of fuels or for reasons unknown to myself.
